TurboTester Industrial

The ATCP developed the TurboTester Industrial, an automated test station, innovative, worldwide, for the testing and quality control of dental handpieces of low and high speed according the standard ISO 7785.

The main elements of station are:
- Ultra-high speed dynamometer (up to 1,000,000 rpm).
- Panel electro-pneumatic to control and sense of pressures and air flow.
- Computer and software for the system automation and documentation of results.

The test station is an innovation developed by ATCP Physical Engineering and measures the following parameters:
- Speed.
- Turbine air flow.
- Cooling air flow.
- Starting pressure of the turbine.
- Stop torque (high speed turbine).
- Torque to 50% of maximum speed (low speed engines).

With the following measuring ranges and accuracies:

And with the following characteristics:
- Shows the test result as "approved" or "non-approved" according to preset parameters.
- It is fully automatic: The operator only puts the dental handpieces at the support and provides the serial number.
- The station generates and stores a report with all test results for each serial number.
- The test of stop torque and at 50% of maximum speed is measured by simulating the real condition of use of the motor and with high reproducibility.

Applications

The TurboTester Industrial was developed to test all types of dental handpieces in order to guarantee quality and to attendance the ISO 7785.

High speed dental handpieces types:
- Straight.
- Contra angle.
- Small head.
- Extra torque.

Low speed dental handpieces types:
- Straight.
- Contra angle.

The test station accepts "Borden" and "Midwest” connectors. The test station may be customized for any format of the handpiece and electric motors.

Measurement technique

The test of dental handpieces is simple and consists of 03 steps:
- Connection of the dental handpieces in the test station.
- Selection of motor type for determining the acceptable ranges.
- Test execution and results reading on the PC monitor.

Operation

The TurboTester Industrial station uses an advanced fiber-optic system able to measure up to 1 million of rotations per minute (rpm).

The air flow (of the turbine and the cooling) is measured using advanced digital flow meters.

The starting pressure of the engine is achieved by applying a pressure that gradually increases with steps of one hundredth of bar. The control of this pressure is achieved by proportional valves as well as the control the pressure that is applied in the flow tests.

The torque is measured with an ultra-high speed dynamometer (UHSDyna) that simulates the real condition of use of dental handpieces, where the braking effort on the drill tangential.
